According to the victim’s brother-in-law, the incident occurred on Monday morning, April 22, 2024, and he revealed that Mfonobong had been subjecting the victim to ongoing harassment and threats for several months.
The victim’s brother-in-law stated, “This lecturer has been using the threat of failing my sister-in-law in his course as leverage to coerce her into engaging in a sexual relationship with him.
It appears to be a recurring pattern, as other students in her class have also encountered similar situations.” The victim consistently refused his advances due to her marital status and even offered him money as an alternative, which he declined.
A recorded voice note emerged as evidence, in which Mfonobong can be heard rejecting the monetary offer and explicitly requesting a sexual encounter.
In response, the victim informed her husband, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Together, they devised a plan to catch the lecturer in the act. Mfonobong fell into the trap and was apprehended in his office, caught in a compromising position.
Following his apprehension, he was brought before the school ( UNN) authorities for further investigation and subsequently taken into police custody.
