Eguavoen Steps Down As Super Eagles Coach After Tunisia Defeats Nigeria

Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down as the interim coach of the Nigeria national team after crashing out of in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash on Sunday,aso Naija reports.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations 2021.

In their Round of 16 match on Sunday, they were defeated 1-0 by Tunisia.

Alex Iwobi was sent off for a bad tackle just two minutes after entering the game.

Tunisia stunned Nigeria’s Super Eagles by scoring just two minutes into the second half.

The Carthage Eagles scored their first goal of the game on a shot by Youssef Msakni.

Nigeria had progressed to the round of 16, after three straight victories against Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau in Group D.

Eguavoen stepped in after Gernot Rohr was sacked last month has now stepped down from his position with Jose Peseiro set to take over.

“What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF (to) make a decision on the way forward,” Eguavoen told journalists after the match.
