Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Remanded in Kuje Prison Until Bail Ruling

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele be detained at the Kuje Correctional Facility until November 22, when the court will rule on his bail application, Aso Naija Reports.

The Federal Government had previously reduced the criminal charges against Emefiele to six counts, totaling N1.6 billion.

Emefiele’s lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, filed a bail motion during his arraignment on Friday, November 17, which Rotimi Oyedepo, representing the Federal Government, strongly opposed.

After hearing arguments for and against the bail motion, Justice Hamza Muazu ruled that a bench ruling could not be delivered due to the numerous legal precedents cited by both parties.

The judge stated that he needed additional time to review the cited authorities and examine the exhibits provided by Emefiele in support of his bail request.
