Popular Nigerian rapper, Sodiq Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, averted publicly on awards giving to mayorkun. He says organizers of the Headies Awards didn’t deem it well on the award because the Best Street-Hop Artiste category given to Mayorkun was supposed to be for Naira Marley. Mayorkun had won the award with his 2020 hit song titled, Geng, aso Naija reports.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, CDQ enunciated that he was in awe when Mayorkun was announced as the winner of the category. He said, “I was not there (at the awards show). I was in Kwara State for the launch of my foundation. I was watching the television in my hotel room when I saw the nominees for the Street Hop category― Naira Marley, Reminisce, Olamide, and Mayorkun. To my utmost surprise, the award was given to Mayorkun.
Do the organizers have any conscience at all? I am not sure anyone has had as many ‘street hop’ songs as Naira Marley in the past two years. Why would they, all of a sudden, give the award to Mayorkun, who is a singer and not even an indigenous rapper? However, it is not about him being a singer. We all know Naira Marley has many street hop songs.”

The rapper also added that there was a lot of politics in the Nigerian music industry.
He added, “There is a lot of politics in the industry and we all know that. Some engage in occultism and if one does not belong to their clique, they would not recognize one. They believe one has to belong to them or be under their shoes. At the end of the day, realness wins, because as long as one does not stop, one’s talent would come to light and no man would be able to stop one.”
