Seven Dies As NCDC Records 1,149 New COVID-19 Cases

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Wednesday recorded 1,149 new cases of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) in Nigeria.

Aso Naija reports that this was made known in a post on its website on Thursday morning.

The latest figure from the NCDC is the highest daily number recorded since February this year.

However, the new figure included 393 from Lagos state which was not recorded among data released on Tuesday.

With Nigeria cases now standing at 184,593, the highly infectious Delta variant and low vaccination is to be blamed for the massive increase in COVID-19 cases.

According to the NCDC, seven people unfortunately died from the virus, with Nigeria’s active cases standing at 14,619, an increase from the 13,756 cases reported on Tuesday.

So far 2,236 have died from the deadly virus since it’s index case in Nigeria.

Lagos reported the highest number of infections on Wednesday with 680 cases.

The state was followed by Rivers State with 157 and Akwa Ibom with 94.
