Hushpuppi bags 11 years in prison from US court


Popular Nigerian socialite and internet sensation, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi has bagged an 11-year jail sentence by a US court.

 

Hushpuppi who was arrested in Dubai in June 2020 and extradited to the USA over internet fraud and money laundering, will spend only nine years in prison as he has already spent two years in prison in the US.

He was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in money laundering with multiple people within and outside the US to ladder the proceedings.


In a personal letter he wrote to the court narrating his source of wealth, criminal adventure, and regrets, Hushpuppi apologized to his family members for bringing them shame and also commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for doing a thorough job in bringing him to justice.

Judge Otis Wright who initially rejected the plea of the defendant’s motion for a delay of judgment, on September 19, delayed Hushpuppi’s sentencing to November 3.

It was gathered that Hushpuppi sentenced to 11 years in prison by US court bagged only 11 years in prison after he appealed to Judge Otis Wright to temper justice with mercy and give him a lighter jail term after scoring high in cleaning activities in prison.

Upon being released after completing his prison sentence, he will be deported to Nigeria.
