Couple Seen Holding Hands as They Face Charges for Land Fraud
The couple has been arraigned on three counts related to an alleged land fraud, specifically pertaining to the obtaining of N2,750,000.00 (Two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) through false pretenses.
One of the charges against the Udeanis states: “Between the period of 10th July 2019 to 19th December 2019 in Enugu, Enugu State, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Udeani Simon Sunday and Udeani Dorcas Amaka, with the intention to defraud, induced one Onugu Angela Chinyere to deliver the sum of Two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N2,750,000.00) under the pretense of selling her a plot of land located behind Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ala-Uguaji along Enugu/Port Harcourt Road, which they knew to be false. Therefore, they have committed an offense contrary to Section 1 (1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under section 1 (3) of the same act.”
The Udeanis pleaded not guilty to the charges. Subsequently, the prosecuting counsel, Nurudeen Ingawa, requested a trial date, while the defense counsel, E.C. Nwauba Esq, applied for bail on behalf of the accused. Justice Umar granted them bail in the amount of N5 million, with one surety who must be a civil servant not below grade level 10 and residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The case has been adjourned until February 6, 2024.
