Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT, Declares No Bail for Kidnappers and Urges Improved Security Measures

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that kidnappers will no longer be granted bail, Aso Naija Reports.

In an effort to improve the security situation in the FCT, Wike instructed the chairmen of the six Area Councils to conduct compulsory monthly security meetings. Failure to comply with this directive will be viewed as a threat to the security of Abuja.

During a security town hall held at Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on January 26, Wike emphasized the importance of these meetings and requested to be notified if any chairman fails to hold them.

Subsequently, he firmly stated that any council chairman neglecting the monthly security meetings poses a risk to the security of the council.

However, Wike expressed his resolve, saying, “The era of granting bail to kidnappers is over. I will not allow it anymore. We will ensure that kidnappers face punishment. How can someone who has committed such a heinous crime be granted bail?”

Consequently, he announced plans to convene meetings with traditional leaders, council chairmen, and security agencies. Wike emphasized that the absence of monthly security meetings within the councils would not be tolerated, holding the chairman accountable for any security breach.

Additionally, Wike assured the residents that the government would provide security agencies with all the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively. He acknowledged the shortcomings faced by some security agencies, such as the lack of equipment and operational vehicles, which hinder their optimal performance.

“We cannot expect them to perform miracles without the proper logistics and communication gadgets,” Wike stated. “Without adequate information, they cannot work wonders or perform miracles. Our role is to provide information through the area councils, traditional rulers, and my office to the security agencies.
