Niger State Governor Signs 2024 Budget into Law, Emphasizes Accountability and Collaboration
During the signing ceremony, Governor Bago issued a stern warning to government officials, cautioning them against misappropriation of state funds. He emphasized that anyone found generating and spending state revenue unlawfully would face severe consequences.
Also expressing his appreciation, Governor Bago commended the legislators for their swift passage of the Appropriation Bill, considering it an unprecedented achievement.
He reiterated his commitment to fostering a strong relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.
As part of this commitment, the governor announced plans to complete the construction of legislative quarters within the next three months to provide suitable accommodation for lawmakers.
Subsequently, Governor Bago emphasized that the legislature’s oversight role would be upheld without compromise, and heads of government agencies that fail to cooperate with legislative scrutiny and status inquiries would be dismissed from their positions.
The Niger state governor stressed the importance of protecting the sanctity of the legislature and encouraged open accountability by keeping government activities transparent.
However, speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji of the state House of Assembly explained that the budget size was increased by N720 million to address critical areas necessary for the realization of the state’s “New Niger” agenda.
He attributed the smooth and prompt passage of the budget to the collaborative efforts between the Planning Commission and the Legislature.
Additionally, Speaker Sarkin-Daji assured unwavering support from the legislature, affirming their dedication to Governor Bago’s vision. He pledged that the 10th Assembly would spare no effort in ensuring the successful realization of the state’s goals.
