17 Passengers Rescued by LASWA As Boat Capsizes In Lagos
This was disclosed in a statement released via LASWA’s Twitter handle on Monday.
The statement read, “ At about 7 am on Monday 20th of February 2023, a commercial passenger ferry named Fazma logistics, loaded with 17 passengers, left Ikorodu ferry terminal at exactly 6:45 am en route Ebute.
“ but unfortunately capsized around the Third mainland bridge close to Bariga ferry terminal. All the passengers were rescued alive by first responders including officers of the Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA.
“ Boat recovery operations commenced immediately while the boat captain is been interrogated and investigation is on going.”
AUTHORITY
The Lagos State Waterways is charged with the responsibility for coordinating and managing reforms necessary for the long term growth and development of water transportation in Lagos State, including the granting of ferry licenses and concessions for the operations of ferry routes and terminals to the private sector.
However, These reforms entail the creation of an enabling long-term regulatory environment that attracts significant private sector involvement in the provision of water transport services.
Also, Through LASWA, the LASG has embarked on a programme of policy reforms and investments to promote and facilitate the provision of water transport aimed at realising its potential to become an attractive mode of transport.
