FAAN Reacts to Arrest of Airport Staff Caught Attempting to Smuggle Drugs into Passenger’s Bag at MMIA, Lagos
FAAN clarifies that the individual involved is not their employee but works for an aviation services company operating within the airport premises. Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection made this statement in Ikeja on Wednesday. She further confirmed that the officer, who attempted to transport a package through the unsuspecting passenger traveling to Accra, has been arrested and handed over to security authorities for further investigation.
Orah explained that the passenger resorted to slapping the officer, whom he had forced to kneel before him, after raising an alarm about being set up for drug trafficking. She emphasized that FAAN is committed to creating a drug-free society and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling at the nation’s airports.
In response to a viral video showing a passenger confronting a supposed FAAN employee for attempting to involve him in drug smuggling, FAAN released the following statement: “FAAN has been made aware of a circulating video on social media depicting an incident at a boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where an individual, claiming to be an employee of the Authority, was slapped by a passenger for attempting to use him in drug trafficking.”
