The statue’s picture glasses were attacked and removed by some hoodlums throughout the continued violence and crisis across the country.

 

The Awolowo sculpture was erected throughout the administration of former Lagos Governor Akinwumi Ambode.

    Nigerian Army Thwarts Kidnapping Attempt by Terrorists in Kaduna, Saves 16 Hostages

    In the community of Kajuru, Kaduna State, the troops of the Nigerian Army, 1 Division, have successfully rescued 16 individuals who were abducted, Aso Naija Reports.

    Acting swiftly, the army personnel foiled a kidnapping attempt orchestrated by terrorists.

    In a statement released on Monday evening, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, declared, “The Nigerian Army troops deployed in 1 Division area of responsibility in Kaduna State have effectively prevented a kidnapping attempt by a violent extremist and insurgent group, thereby rescuing the abductees in Tantatu Community of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.”

    The operation was initiated based on intelligence received on Sunday night, enabling the troops to locate the insurgents who had taken several individuals hostage in the village.

    The statement continued, “Upon reaching the site of the incident, the troops relentlessly pursued the insurgents, engaging them in a fierce exchange of gunfire and ultimately freeing 16 kidnapped victims.”

    Subsequently,  army is currently conducting extensive search and rescue operations in the surrounding bushes to locate any remaining hostages and disrupt the nefarious activities of the insurgents.

    Additionally, Major General Nwachukwu stated, “The troops are still exploring the wooded areas in an ongoing effort to rescue other victims and thwart the malicious activities of the insurgents.”

    In light of the successful operation, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, commended the troops for their accomplishments and urged them to maintain vigilance throughout the ongoing counter-insurgency operations, with the goal of liberating all troubled regions in the country.

    Unknown Gunmen Abduct, Kill Popular Bauchi Monarch

    Popular Bauchi monarch, Alhaji Garba Badamasi, has tragically lost his life in a distressing incident, Aso Naija Reports.

    Unknown individuals, identified as gunmen, abducted and subsequently killed him at his palace in Riruwai village, located in Lame District, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

    The distressing event occurred on Friday, March 15, 2024.

    According to reports from DailyPost, the gunmen responsible for this heinous act did not make any demands for ransom from the family members of the late Alhaji Badamasi.

    After abducting the monarch, they remained silent, leaving his loved ones in a state of uncertainty.

    Following a diligent search, villagers discovered Alhaji Badamasi’s lifeless body near the village.

    He had spent a day in captivity before meeting his unfortunate end. The concerned villagers, who were actively searching for him in the surrounding bush, located and recovered his remains.

    This tragic incident has left the community in mourning, as they grapple with the loss of their respected and beloved traditional ruler.

    Electricity Distributors: Nigerian Government’s Electricity Debt Amounts to N100 Billion

    In a recent interview with Arise TV, Sunday Oduntan, the Executive Director of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, disclosed that the Nigerian government has an outstanding debt of approximately N100 billion in unpaid electricity bills, Aso Naija Reports.

    Oduntan emphasized the importance of the government fulfilling its obligations in creating a conducive environment for energy distributors in the country.

    Furthermore, the executive director highlighted that the accumulated debt owed by various Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs) amounts to N100 billion.

    Oduntan pointed out that the recent situation where the Abuja electricity distribution company had to resort to public advertising to draw attention to the unpaid bills by the presidential villa could have been avoided if the government had been prompt in settling its electricity dues.

    “I have consistently emphasized that all parties need to fulfill their responsibilities.

    The government should always strive to create a favorable business environment and fulfill its financial obligations.

    It was only a few weeks ago that news went viral about the outstanding electricity bill owed by the Nigeria presidential villa.

    Additionally, the bill remained unpaid until Abuja DisCo placed an advertisement to bring it to the attention of the President.”

    “It might surprise you to discover that there are ministries, departments, and agencies that also owe significant amounts to Abuja Disco.

    In essence, the total outstanding debt owed by the MDAs amounts to N100 billion.

    We have been raising this issue for quite some time. The debts did not accumulate overnight; they are not politically motivated or intended to cause mischief. We are simply stating the facts and seeking solutions,” stated Oduntan.

    Also, it was reported that President Bola Tinubu issued a directive for the settlement of the N342.3 million outstanding electricity bill debt owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

    The directive followed the completion of an account reconciliation process between the State House Management and AEDC.
