Federal Government Plans New Minimum Wage Implementation in April 2024
This announcement was made on Thursday, November 30, in Abuja.
Minister Mohammed stated that the current minimum wage of N30,000 would cease to be effective at the end of March 2024. As part of the government’s proposed budget, an allocation of N24.66 trillion has been set aside for salaries in the years 2024, 2025, and 2026.
It should be noted that after President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, the Federal Government agreed to provide N35,000 to each of its employees as a means of mitigating the impact of the subsidy removal.
However, the organized labor maintained that the N35,000 wage adjustment was a temporary solution, emphasizing the necessity for a minimum wage review in 2024.
