17 Residents Abducted as Bandits Target Garam Town and Zhibi Community in Niger State

On Wednesday, January 16, two separate attacks by bandits resulted in the abduction of approximately 17 residents from Garam town and Zhibi community in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, Aso Naija Reports.

According to a report by Daily Trust, 14 individuals were taken captive from Garam, a town situated along the Sabon-Wuse-Bwari road. Additionally, three individuals were abducted from Zhibi, a community that shares borders with Dei-Dei town, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dantani Daniel, the Commander of the vigilante group in Garam, stated that the bandits targeted the Sabon-Unguwa area of the community at approximately 1 a.m. They seized their victims from various residences and swiftly departed within less than an hour.

Furthermore, according to a resident interviewed by the publication, the assailants attacked the home of a serving policeman who resided in the community and fired shots at him.

Subsequently, the injured officer was promptly transported to Kubwa General Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

The recent abductions serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by Niger State and the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to tackle banditry and restore peace to the affected areas.
