A youth leader in one of the villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area in Kaduna State, Babangida Yaro, told the Daily Trust that since the ban on weekly markets as part of the anti-insecurity measures, bandits have been active in the villages of Damari, Kutemashi, and Kuyello only asked for cooked food when they were kidnapping people.
The youth leader revealed that banning the sale of fuel at gas stations in rural communities has also helped curb movement, further revealing that when bandits kidnap two or three people from farms, we are authorized to go get them to help their relatives to eat as ransom because there is no communication network to make contact.
He said:
“There is relative peace around Damari, kuyello, Kutemashi because the bandits have stopped attacking our communities. They usually stay in the forest and seiz food items mostly cooked ones from vendors.”
Yaro also told the publication that the Dogon Dawa area is still not completely safe as villagers are still afraid to access their farmland. He regretted that the ban on the use of private motorbikes in the villages had exacerbated the inhabitants’ difficulties.
