Nationwide Power Outage: Nigeria Plunged into Darkness

Nationwide Power Outage in Nigeria as National Grid Fails

On Monday, December 11, Nigerians experienced a widespread power outage when the national grid system suffered a major failure, Aso Naija Reports.

The grid failure occurred around 1 pm, resulting in a significant drop in electricity supply. The available power capacity plummeted from 4,032.80 megawatts around noon to a mere 43 megawatts at 1 pm, and a meager 303 megawatts by approximately 5:00 pm.

According to reports from Leadership, most electricity distribution companies (DisCos) confirmed that their feeders were non-functional. Additionally, data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s System Network revealed that all 22 electricity plants connected to the grid were generating zero megawatts as of 5 pm.

This abrupt blackout left the entire country without electricity, affecting businesses, households, and public services. Authorities are working diligently to address the issue and restore power to all affected areas as quickly as possible.
