Dangote Refinery Receives Inaugural Crude Cargo, Paving the Way for Production of Petroleum Products
The first cargo consisted of 1 million barrels of Agbami crude grade, supplied by Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Ltd (STASCO), and it was unloaded into the refinery’s crude tanks via the Single Point Mooring (SPM) system.
This initial delivery of 1 million barrels represents the first phase of a larger supply agreement, which entails providing a total of 6 million barrels of crude oil to sustain the refinery’s daily processing capacity of 350,000 barrels. The subsequent five shipments will be carried out by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and ExxonMobil.
The timely supply of these cargoes is vital to facilitate the refinery’s initial operations and enable the production of essential petroleum products such as diesel, aviation fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Once these initial products are successfully produced, the refinery will progress towards the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as gasoline.
Overall, the successful receipt of the first crude cargo sets the stage for the commencement of operations at Dangote Refinery and signifies a significant step forward in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
