Nigeria Plunged into Darkness as TCN Shuts Down National Grid in Response to NLC/TUC Strike

In response to the indefinite strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has made the decision to shut down the national grid, Aso Naija Reports.

Spokesperson for TCN, confirmed this development during a conversation with DailyPost on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Mbah stated that the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) followed the directives of the Nigeria Labour Congress and withdrew their services at approximately 11:20 am on Monday, resulting in a nationwide blackout.

She further explained, “Electricity workers are members of the NLC, and they have adhered to the organized labour’s directive to withdraw their services starting from Tuesday.”

Reports indicate that the Federal Capital Territory and its surrounding areas are currently experiencing a blackout.

This occurrence follows the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to join the nationwide strike declared by the NLC and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.

The unions are protesting against the mistreatment of NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during the workers’ protest in Imo State.
