President Orders Thorough Probe into Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Led by Betta Edu Amid Allegations of Misappropriation of Funds

President Bola Tinubu has issued an order to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, which is led by Betta Edu, Aso Naija Reports.

The Minister has been accused of authorizing a transfer of N585,198,500.00 into a personal account.

According to an alleged letter signed by Minister Betta, she supposedly instructed the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer the mentioned amount to the account of an individual named Oniyelu Bridget as a grant for vulnerable groups in four states. However, the AGF, Madein, clarified that her office received a payment request from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs but did not take any action on it.

Edu, 37, who is the youngest minister in the President’s cabinet, has responded by stating that there are plans to tarnish her reputation and emphatically denied any involvement in the misappropriation of public funds.

In a statement released on January 7, the Information Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth. The President has instructed a thorough and comprehensive investigation to be conducted in order to verify the accuracy and validity of the reported details.

The government is resolute in its determination to uncover the truth regarding this matter and ensures that appropriate measures will be taken to identify and appropriately punish any breaches and wrongdoing in accordance with its commitment to public accountability and due process.

The Information Minister also affirmed that Nigerians will be kept informed about the progress of the investigation. Urging the public to be patient as the investigation unfolds, the government is dedicated to conducting a fair and impartial process, and the findings will be communicated transparently to the public.
