Former Zimbabwean Minister Suggests that Legalizing Prostitution May Contribute to Preserving Marriages
Speaking at a gathering organized by the Economic Justice Women Project (EJWP), Chikwinya emphasized the need for policymakers to address the concerns of individuals engaged in sex work.
She asserted that sex workers play a crucial role in preventing marital breakdowns.
Chikwinya expressed her viewpoint, stating, “Our nation has made significant progress in grappling with this issue, and it is my belief that if we are unable to address a problem in the manner we desire, we must eventually acknowledge the reality on the ground.
Sex work is an undeniable reality. The time has come to advocate for its legalization. By doing so, we can safeguard the well-being of those involved in this occupation who currently face rampant abuse.
Furthermore, many individuals would acknowledge that these sex workers are playing a pivotal role in our society by preserving numerous marriages from collapsing.
Even upon reaching such a stage, there would be no inherent issue since these sex workers engage in a transaction involving a product that can still be taken back home in its original state.”
