The governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed shock at the incident and immediately issued orders to the security agencies to track down the perpetrators.
The unsettling event took place in Koro town, located in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to reports, the gunmen forcefully entered the palace of the traditional ruler, Oba Segun Aremu-Cole, around 7 pm. They fired gunshots, fatally injuring the monarch, and also abducted his wife.
This tragic incident follows closely after the recent killings of two other traditional rulers in Ekiti State.
Additionally, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area were attacked and killed by gunmen while returning from a meeting.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the attack and condemned the killing of the monarch by Gunmen.
However, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor described the incident as reckless, shocking, and abominable.
Also, urged the security agencies to spare no effort in apprehending the perpetrators, ensuring the safe release of the abducted individuals, and bringing the culprits to justice.
Governor AbdulRazaq further expressed his condolences to the people of Koro, assuring them of the government’s support during this difficult time.
Subsequently, after a security briefing, soldiers were deployed to the palace of the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government to initiate a manhunt for the gunmen. The search operation will extend into the surrounding bush areas.
