Man Arrested in Bauchi State for Allegedly Raping 10-Year-Old Boy

23-Year-Old Suspect Apprehended for Alleged Rape of 10-Year-Old Boy in Bauchi State

A 23-year-old man named Sanusi Umar has been apprehended by the Bauchi State police for the alleged sexual assault of a minor, Aso Naija Reports.

According to a press statement released by Police spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakili on Wednesday, the arrest was made on March 28, 2024, by operatives from Operation Restore Peace (ORP). The suspect is accused of raping a 10-year-old boy, whose identity has been withheld.

The suspect, who sells garden eggs, tiger nuts, and other items, is said to have illicitly engaged in sexual activity with the mentally unstable 10-year-old boy after enticing him with a N30 candy.

As per the statement, the suspect lured the victim to an isolated area behind the AIB filling station along Kofar Ran under the pretense of defecating. After the act, the suspect asked the victim to remove his trousers, claiming to inspect the cleanliness of his anal area.

“After the victim removed his trousers, the suspect also removed his own trousers, approached the victim from behind, and sexually assaulted him. The victim immediately sought help from the filling station manager, informing him of the incident,” the statement read.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is originally from Jingino village in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State. He had been residing in Bauchi State for about two years, selling garden eggs at the AIB filling station along Kofar Ran. It was also discovered that the suspect took advantage of the victim’s mental health condition to commit the crime.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to the ATBU Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where various tests were conducted to assess the victim’s health. The investigation is ongoing, and once it is completed, the suspect will be prosecuted.

In conclusion, Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Mohammed appealed to parents, guardians, and influential individuals to discourage their children and protégés from engaging in criminal activities.
