Spyro Responds to Backlash: Explaining His Church Performance of ‘Only Fine Girl’
During an event at The Harvesters International Christian Centre on Sunday, Spyro sang his popular song. While some individuals questioned the compatibility of the song with Christian principles, others argued that the event itself was a stage play.
In response to the controversy, Spyro took to his Instagram page on Monday and posted a video to clarify the situation. He stated that he is a member of the church and actively participates in the choir. He emphasized that he was not paid for his performance and saw no issue with serving God despite being a celebrity. Spyro explained that the performance was part of a church drama.
Spyro further elaborated on why he chose to sing the song. He mentioned that the event was a carol service called Fantazia, and the clip shared on Twitter was from the drama that took place during the service. In the drama, Spyro’s role was to portray a character who attempts to seduce the king’s wife, which was the context in which he sang ‘Only Fine Girl.’ He likened this storyline to the biblical account of Herod, where a similar narrative unfolds.
By offering these explanations, Spyro aimed to address the concerns raised and provide context for his involvement in the performance of his song within the church setting.
